I got 2 of these amazing limited edition quads from Guerlain called Velours D'Or. One for myself and one for the Giveaway.......and I am so excited to share the review since the announcement date of the Giveaway is coming so so so near.
Elegance and opulence is spelled by Guerlain when it comes to delivering a stunning product like this, in terms of packaging, formula and wear. Its great to have a brand who can relate to their star clients and give a stellar performance each time this product is used. So lets see what this mystery box contains....
PACKAGING
This fabulous quad comes in its sleeve with a small honey bee emblem over it. The case is made of gold with a bronze tinge and it looks like a roman artifact that has been given to future generations over and over again. Its quite heavy, sturdy and yet it has this beautiful luxurious feel. The eyeshadow quad consists of eyeshadows and 2 good quality disposable spongy brushes. The 'Guerlain' logo looks so lovely and is embossed intricately over the quad to give an ode to this masterpiece.
FORMULA
There is nothing much to talk about Guerlain when it comes to formulas. You just fall short of words. There is a buttery matte eyeshadow with intense pigment and ultra finely milled powder that feels almost like cream. Then there are two satiny eyeshadows with the same textures and really intense pigmentation. The shimmery sparkly shade is a breather amongst the three dark colors and looks gorgeous. Its a finely milled mica that is high shine and almost gives a foiled effect when layered (although many fallouts if not used with caution).
COLORS
These are some of the best textures in the market and I wouldn't think twice before saying this. The honey comb stamped design and the queen bee looking so gorgeous and lovely and quite enviable to own one. I can imagine the reaction of the one who wins it and hopefully uses it seeing the design. The colors are as follows: -
- Jet black with matte texture. The powdery is so finely milled that it almost feels like a hardened creamy product. The color is as intense as kohl and a smoother substitute too. I liked it more than Urban Decay Blackout.
- Charcoal with a mauve tone. This satiny eyeshadow is almost a mauve and charcoal duo chrome and it does give that effect on the lids. Its quite a unique shade and I do not know of any brand who would have this shade. Its a smokey eye with a twist.
- Coppery gold sparkle with a frosty finish. This is a gold with a slightly red tone and looks beautiful. The fact that it is sheer allows to create quite a floaty smokey eye which looks like reflection of sun rays over rippling waters (shall do this looks for the summers).
- Satiny plum purple with blue-violet micro shimmers. This is the color for which I bought the eyeshadow quad. Its uber-chic and very glamorously as well intense. It has a bit of raspberry tone to it making it a very rich shade.
PRICE
Rs.3600 for 6 gm.
APPLICATIONS
- I have done a few looks with this quad mixing it with other colors and all.
- This is a palette made for smokey eyes and nothing else/
- Its quite a versatile palette and the colors can be mixed with other brands to create some stunning results.
- The darker colors could be used as liners, wet or dry. This is great for day look where you do not want any overwhelming eye makeup.
- The gold shade can be applied on lips for a bedazzling effect that convert any matte lippie into a gorgeous shimmery one. Use it especially for darker reds for the effect to be seen.
RECOMMENDATIONS
This was a limited edition so I doubt about the availability but you can ask for it at selected Guerlain counters all over the country (INDIA).
I did 2 looks with the quad which I shall be making detailed tutorials later in the some days. Here have a glimpse at what I have done.
LOOK 1
I have used the black eyeshadow as a liner and created a lovely contrast between warm shimmery gold and purples. Its a party wear eye makeup and looks stunning on any complexions.
LOOK 2
Here I have done some mixing and matching and tried to create an amazing aurora borealis kind of a look. This is also a party look.
These looks shall subsequently follow the review and I hope you enjoy the Russian Ballroom themed makeups which I shall be posting sooner or later. Hope you liked the review. Please remember to enter the Giveaway as this is the product that you will be getting.
Till then,
Ciao
