Makeups that gave me Shakeups!

Hearing to Adele's Someone like you and retrospectively thinking about makeup, I thought of writing this article. I would call it an anti-post because it may not be the same positive article that I would normally write. One of the lines in that stanza 'Sometimes it lasts in love, but sometimes it hurts instead!' is so true when I think about my past ventures.

Btw I am not discussing my love life here. I am just talking about the products I bought and really regret for buying them. They may be very good or very useful but I bought them impulsively and do not use them. These products are such that I cant even throw (since they are in pristine condition) nor do a blog sale as I speculate whether anyone would buy them as I wont sell them for dirt cheap rates.

So what are these regretted purchases???

Smoke in Nudes!!

I am extremely sorry and shall be so for sometime as I am doing makeup to a celeb (related to Bollywood whose name cannot be disclosed) and have to run down to her place more than 5 times a week. Since no internet I cannot post and really sorry for that.

The post of today is actually an old post when I got my Naked Palette. I was requested by many to do a tutorial so I made another post with a lot of improvements. Since so many out there are inspired by the Naked and Naked 2 palette, I will be doing a lot of looks with these palettes till end of summer.

I used the Urban Decay Naked 2 Palette to create this look. The best part is, if muted down this can be a day look and just by darkening and smoking it up it could turn into a night look.

Colors marked with a pink star is what I have used.

So lets see how to do this look..........

Metal Bate!

Sultry metallic makeup and spring summer may be polar opposites during the day but champagnes with golds and bronzes help break the rule. This Urban Decay Naked 2 Palette 2 inspired easy Spring Summer 2012 look adds a metallic touch to brighten up the day.

A metallic eye a la Kim Kardashian demands super long lashes (mine are real but you can fake yours if needed) and spice up your day at a brunch or an occasion. I would advice serious dressing down as this look can cause faux pas if done incorrectly though....

Lets see how to get this look.........

Understated Elegance

Its different to be rich and different to be royal. I have always admired the kings and queens of several Indian dynasties but whom I respect the most is Rajmata Gayatridevi. Her sophistication, her sense of style and her effortless dressing is a sobriquet to the fashion world. I could imagine her Majesty carrying this makeup look and that why this is an ode to her sense of style and fashion.

To capture the beauty of the makeup I am using my Urban Decay Naked 2 palette which has certain colors that would suit royalty at its best.

The colors marked with a star are the ones that are used. You might not be able to trace the colors as they are not placed distinctively on the lid but you'll appreciate the nuances in the look.

Natural and Brighter!

Finally the spring has arrived and summers are soon to begin. Then there are bright bursts of pinks and corals everywhere. Some of that infectious glamour has arrived at the shores of Beauty Traveller too. I may not own Chanels and Dior despise me (LOL) but I have my version of the lovely soft washed coral eyes and pink lips with an utmost glowing complexion for Spring 2012.

What unbelievably true in this post is that not a single eyeshadow in been used. I have scuplted the eye and the face with subtle washes of shimmery blushes and bronzers to get a perfect definition. This could be inviting as the products used are minimal but the results are guaranteed. It features 2 looks one with the liner and one without to gauge the glam quoitent.

Sometimes its not about complicated eye makeups and dramatic looks. Its a celebration of simplicity and a hope to find happiness and pleasure by just being simple yet striking. So lets see how to do this glowing look........

The Elvish Legacy.

This look is inspired from the Elvish clothing in the movie Lord of the Rings. They mixed eclectic greens with demure grays for a fabric that was woven with magic and had various properties and protections. The silhouette is of Elvish silk and looks extremely chic when Arwen wears it.

I used Inglot Pearl eyeshadows to recreate this aura and magical effect. The pearl grey eyeshadow has a certain mauve undertone which makes it appear so magical and beautiful.

To make the eyes look mesmerizing I thought of a smokey eye. The black and green interplay creates a unique magical duo chrome effect on the lower lid that balances the super shimmery pearlized effect on the upper lids.

Summer Face! 5 PERFECT FOUNDATIONS

Spring may be a favorite season of mine, but life in Mumbai does not allow enjoying it to the fullest. The climate is ridiculously hot and uncomfortable and makeup runs faster than we could. In such cases we look for tools and products for better resistance to environmental conditions and here are a few things I found out. This post is purely dedicated to foundations (especially liquids) as these are the products that run the fastest and I may make another post later.

Whatever brand it may be, its important to look for words like 'non comedogenic', 'oil-free', 'water resistant' etc so that the product assures at least some amount of wear. So lets see what is in for foundations this spring-summer 2012.....

Maybe its Maybelline!!

{Maybelline.com is the rightful owner of this image.If copyright issues are reported kindly mail me on neerajnavare@yahoo.com and this picture will be immediately removed}

When it comes to photography work and lesser budgets I prefer using cosmetics that do good and justice to that budget. What is the point of using an expensive brand when the person does not know or realize the importance of it and pays in peanuts? That is my priority and I hope it is not mistaken by any. As the budget goes higher I use Clinique, MAC, Dior, Chanel, Lancome, Shiseido and Estee Lauder but when the budget gets on the lower spectrum I tend to use Revlon, Bourjois, Max Factor, Oriflame, L'Oreal, Kryolan and Ben Nye. But Maybelline was nowhere until some of my lovely blogger friends came to the call of my help.

Maybelline is one of the brands I have used the least, owing to my previous bad experiences being unhappy about the products that they had. Only one product family from Maybelline that was in my kit were the lipbalms. Nothing else wooed me until 3 days back when I had to decide some stuff for the shoot. While browsing through the brands, I was looking for products that would literally blow my mind, being drugstore brands. Nothing appealed me, not even my favorite brand Bourjois until I came across Maybelline again. Its this time that I was smart and happy enough to make a good sale for the SA there and she was blushing (with that amazing sale I did for her I hope).

SO this post is a recommendation post followed by the haul (though I am not planning to do that as I have swatched and used most of the products I got from there.)............lets have a look!

Cat eyes.....again!

I always wanted to do a dramatic cat's eye since sometime for this Spring 2012. There are many ways to apply eye liner and each one makes a statement. I hope this one does too as it is a twist in the regular lined eyes.

A broken liner like this accentuates the eye shape, elongates round eyes (like mine) and also adds a certain glam quotient to the look.

I have used false lashes to accentuate the eye shape as real lashes look quite 'eaten apart' by the dark eye liner.

So lets see how to do get this glamorous eyes.........

Dirty Purples!!

Purple like many colors is very versatile. When mixed with browns and black, certain shades are created that would have nuances of purples and looks glamorous. This look is not using pure hues of purple but colors that have a smidgen of purple in them. This post may remind people of Vidya Balan's Dirty Picture, but the look is not inspired by her.

This is an ultra glamorous look that could be worn over any attire and still amplify the look. What I love is that that taupe purple eyeshadow creates a mysterious halo around the eyes and the shimmer play with light correctly and nicely.

Btw I have used my favorite BH cosmetics 120 eyeshadow palette in 4th edition to do this look. I wonder whether this is a 'drug store' brand but I guess it solves the question of someone saying that I dont use drugstore brands to 'show-off'....LOL
Btw for anyone who may know, I am in the process of trying the Maybelline Dream Mousse liquid foundation for photoshoots and if it succeeds it would be my next HG foundation till I don't get bored.

Anyways, lets get to the look...........

Blogger Scoop : Dare Devilry or Utter Cowardice.

I must say this as I found it really funny and entertaining. Stand up comedians entertain the crowd by making a fool out of someone sitting in that crowd. Also there are stand up comedians who make a fool of themselves in front of the crowd to make them laugh. Well for the former its easy to comment on someone's attire or body shape or personality and people laugh at it but remember OR for the latter it is very difficult to say funny things about him/herself and make the crowd laugh and forget.

Indians take the other comedian better as no one would allow anyone to laugh on themselves and treat this jovial nature as a personal insult. Indians also are involved in utter politics and why would Indian bloggers escape that when the see the same environment around them. Sometimes more than talent luck is required to be successful and I don't deny some vivid examples in the Indian beauty blogging industry.

Beauty world in India has boundaries the same way there are cultural boundaries, social boundaries and personal boundaries. Everyone's perception of beauty looks more channelized and review oriented than be liberal. Someone like me who may not follow all the trends and do something myself (to entertain myself and pass some enlightenment) are called 'showoffs'. I loved that word.

Btw why am I writing this article? A so called Beauty Blogger has started writing beauty scoops and sharing riddles and limmericks on the best and worst bloggers in the blogger world. Unfortunately he/she is another Indian who is trying to gain attention by tarnishing the work of others and praising some irrelevant people. Should I consider this comedy, beauty journalism, cyber bullying, hatred or some sort of hocus pocus? I am quite shocked. I loved the way I was introduced and even if bad things were written about me, I would still love that person for being able to analyze my complex self from the farthest distance.

What I hate about this Indian Perez Hilton (I have given this title after getting entitled as 'Showoff') is that the name remains anonymous and there's no way one can contact him/her to know what is happening. Does this end here? Tomorrow this person who is explicitly trying to deflate images of all the bloggers (or gain attention) happens to be a regular reader who out of the blue felt that something bad has to be written and is trying to satisfy the emotional needs of self. Hahaha....I wished this person could write scoops about politicians (who would have immediately made them disappear from this planet) but prefers to target innocent beauty bloggers who might be thought as helpless docile creatures.

Anyways I am not here to link the blog or share the insights and insults thrown at people (nor am I friends with anyone to feel bad) but I pity the cowardice of this person who is blatantly writing stuff that doesn't mean anything. With that confidence I think revealing his/her name should be the next step which may not be safe from the murderous gazes of the beauty bloggers that have been insulted.

If anyone has seen the blog get entertained and if not then keep surfing and searchin.

I haven't shared this but someone who got spammed had made a funny comment on my father's demise as well. People can be ruthless but our integrity and composure should be intact. I think one must really not be bothered from the 'comments' and keep concentrating on their work and to create peace around the world, never opine about someone without knowing them thoroughly. Remember the world laughs at everyone and anyone at any point of time. So did I LOLOLOLOL!!

Till then,

Ciao

Toasted and Glazed

I was very inspired by the honey and butter that went on to my warm toast at breakfast and thought of doing a look with this. I have always loved the honey glaze on eyes and feel that its something that would not go out of trend.

You can use any color to create this effect, just remember to use dark colors as low lights and a shimmery pigment (preferably duochrome) overlaid over it.

Double timing green!!

I am back after a week long sabbatical and not been able to post anything. This was due to lack of internet access and it is not easy to type and update using Blackberry. To tell the truth I have been doing photoshoots with pro photographers every alternate day and that kept me really busy and helpless enough not to write my blog.

In the meanwhile I met some amazing looking models (3 girls and 1 guy) and had a wonderful time. I will post the look as soon as I get hold of the pics.

Anyways, this look is again from the 'Bevy of Envy' series and is inspired from Giorgio Armani's rtw makeup. I loved the effect Ms.Linda Cantello created using 2 different liners. Its a look that is anti-reflection and the effect is beautiful.

So lets see, how to do this look.........
